  Descending Sun

As the day grows short and the sky grows weary
And the sun climbs towards the earth
Another day is claimed by God,
And night is given birth.

In amber yellows and turquoise hues
Day turns to night in a spectacular display
Colors churn and fade and melt to night
In streams and swirls of enchanting light.

Happens every day, the setting sun,
Caught by sunset catchers and poetic kinsmen.
Another day is passing by,
As the sun descends into the darkening sky,

The descending sun is God’s dear way
Of making us remember to cherish each day.
We hope and pray we spent it right,
Not wasting one moment on anger, fear or fright.

When the sun disappears into the horizon
And lays the day to rest
Remember the brilliance of the setting sun
And live each day of your life with pure zest.

  What Love’s Supposed to Be

I’ve accepted I’m not the one
For you romantically
But you never shared along the way
Your doubts or fears about me.

I miss you terribly, my dear friend,
I’d hoped to be your wife,
I wish now we’d begun as friends,
Since you’d still be in my life.

While I’m still in love with your dear soul,
I’ll take friendship over nothing at all!
But if you miss not one thing about me,
This will be my very last call.

I’ll always cherish you dearly,
Your soul, your heart, your dreams,
How do some people just say goodbye?
Where true love once was gleaned.

Maybe love is supposed to be like this,
Two people meet and fall in love,
Then one realizes the timing is wrong,
And must follow their feelings from above.

For some, love looks so easy,
Two people meet and fall in love,
But maybe their stories are more complex,
Unseen challenges already resolved.

Isn’t love supposed to be easier?
Why does it bring such grief and complication?
In my eyes anything is sufferable,
As long as love is the basis relation.

What I miss about you most, my friend,
(Well I guess I can’t pinpoint one thing),
I hope my invitation for friendship
Is accepted as welcoming.

  Before I Sleep

Tucked in my bed, ready for sleep,
I stare towards the nighttime sky,
Thinking of snowflakes, and puppies,
and friends, of times bittersweet gone by.

As I fall asleep in a comfortable daze,
I look towards the sky to see,
Two stars adrift out in the night,
Staring down at me.

One is you, the other me,
Two stars above in the sky,
My star is hoping, shining bright,
Your star comes shooting by.

Alone I sit here in the dark,
Dreaming that one fine day,
Your heart remembers the love we had,
And finds to me its way.

You're the refreshing breeze that blows,
On summer's blistering days,
You're the cool ocean tide that flows,
Spreading peace in calming waves.

You're the wind that carries melodies,
To those who've never heard song,
You're the spirit that lifts burdens from the weary,
Telling them, "there's hope, so hang on!"

When I think of home, I think of you,
As I close my eyes so tight,
I dream your arms embrace me true,
With love more powerful than might.

These are my wishes, my hopes, my dreams,
As the sun sets night by night,
I can only hope that you will see,
It's my twinkling star shining so bright.

Just knowing you are out there,
Underneath this great big sky,
Blessed to have passed you in the night,
My love for you won't die.

  Do Your Best

Do your best
With what you have
Just try hard
And you'll be glad

You're the only you
There will EVER be
Don't waste your time
Not liking your "me!"

You can wish and wish,
A thousand times,
But you'll still be you,
When you open your eyes.

Be happy you're here,
On this beautiful planet,
Be proud of being John,
Jim or Joseph or Janet!

Love your nose and your arms,
And your hair, legs and teeth,
For these are the things,
That make you unique.

They don't like you? Who cares!
Can't you possibly see?
That they don't see the you,
The you - you call "me!"

You're beautiful now,
Just the way you are,
So stop wishing for changes,
On ill-fated stars.

So look in the mirror,
And think hard for a while,
Only YOU can turn
That frown to a smile!

So be thankful for "you",
For goodness sake,
You could be staring back
At a rat or a snake.

Trudge on and on
Cuz forever you'll be
The ONLY one
That you can call "me."

Now - go! Do your best!
Whatever it takes!
And give life itself,
Your greatest of greats!

  Second Time Around

Heartbreak's here,
My second time,
Another wretched,
Grieving goodbye.

If you've been through it,
You'd understand,
Why I get scared,
Of a sweet, young man.

Fooled to believe,
Convinced I was right,
This love would be forever,
Not shatter mid-flight.

I was wrong, oh well,
I'll try again,
I'll search for a love,
that will last 'til the end.
